5 Best Food Spots When Travelling in New York

If you’re thinking about travelling to New York this year, or you’re already located in New York and are looking for some unique food spots, then this is the blog for you!

I went to New York for a week-long girls trip back in 2022. Everyday during our trip, we would go out for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, looking for the best mouthwatering food locations that New York has to offer. I have compiled a list below of some noteworthy food spots that you should all try. Even after a year, we still talk about these locations and how good the food was!

1. Insomnia Cookies

This is the best place to go if you’re craving for some warm gooey mouthwatering cookies. My friends and I went here for a late night dessert and it was so good! Insomnia Cookies offers a variety of cookies such as: Chocolate Chunk, Vegan Cold Brew Latte (yes it’s a cookie!), White Chocolate Macadamia, Peanut Butter Chip, Snickerdoodle, Double Chocolate Mint, and many more.

The franchise also offers ice cream, cakes, different types of milk, and much more. My friends and I loved the Chocolate Chunk cookies and the White Chocolate Macadamia cookies. We went there at least 2-3 times during our trip to satisfy our late night dessert cravings.

Address: 299 E 11th St, New York, NY 10003, United States (since it’s a franchise, there are other locations)

Operating Hours: 11am – 1am (Sunday to Wednesday), 11am – 3am (Thursday to Saturday).

Cost: Approximately $2.95 per cookie.

2. Pick A Bagel

If you’re thinking about getting breakfast, I highly recommend Pick A Bagel. Pick A Bagel is exactly what the title is, a bagel spot. They have many unique bagel spreads such as: olive cream cheese, tofu scallion cream cheese, strawberry cream cheese, walnut and raisin cream cheese, and more. You can also add avocado, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, bacon, and other items to your bagel as well.

If you’re not a bagel person, don’t worry, they also offer other breakfast items such as: scrambled eggs, omelettes, sandwiches, salads, wraps and more. However, they are known for their bagels and it’s absolutely delicious and filling. Just a heads up though, my friends and I went to Pick A Bagel at 9am and there was a huge line up. I believe it took around 20 minutes or so to wait in line for our bagel. Also, the seating inside is pretty limited so you might have to take it to go.

Address: 891 8th Ave, New York, NY 10019 (since it’s a franchise, there are other locations)

Operating Hours: 6:30am – 8:00pm (Sunday), 6:00am – 8:00pm (Monday to Friday), 6:30am – 6:30pm (Saturday). Please note that the operating hours depend on the location.

Cost: Approximately $4 – $10 per bagel.

3. 99 Cent Fresh Pizza

You have most likely heard about the 99 Cent Fresh Pizza on social media or on TV. However, if you haven’t, it’s exactly what the name is, a big slice of fresh pizza for just 99 cents. My friends and I grabbed one slice each as a midnight snack, and it’s good enough to fill our cheese cravings. The place is open from 9:30am – 5:00am which is really convenient and I hardly ever see a big lineup outside. Also, don’t be fooled, just because it’s 99 cents doesn’t mean that it’s a mediocre slice, the pizza is actually pretty good!

Address: 1723 Broadway New York, NY 10019 (since it’s a franchise, there are other locations).

Operating Hours: 9:30am – 5:00am (Monday to Saturday) and 9:30am – 4:30am (Sundays).

Cost: 99 cents per slice of pizza.

4. Angelina Paris NYC

Okay, I absolutely love this place! If you haven’t heard of Angelina, then you’re missing out. It’s basically a really fancy French restaurant. The original one is located in Paris, and the one in New York is a remake of it. Angelina offers incredible pastries, such as: Chocolate Eclairs, French Strawberry Tarts, Strawberry Cheesecake and more. They also serve sandwiches, breakfast croissants, salads, omelettes, cheeseburgers, pastas, hot chocolate and the list goes on.

I highly recommend getting the hot chocolate since it was by far the smoothest, richest, hot chocolate I’ve ever had! My friends and I also had the Chocolate Eclairs with it, and some macaroons, which was pretty darn good. The decor of this place is stunning for pictures for your social media, and fun fact, this particular restaurant was featured in Indian Matchmaking Season 3! Pretty cool right?!

Address: 1050 6th Ave, New York, NY 10018, United States

Operating Hours: 8:00am – 8:00pm (Monday to Friday) and 9:00am – 7:00pm (Saturday and Sunday).

Cost: $5 – $50 per person.

5. Beyond Sushi

If you love sushi, and that too vegan sushi, then you must try Beyond Sushi. I will be honest, even if you are not a vegan, you still might like this. The sushi they make is extremely flavourful, with black truffle caviar, smoked pepper sauce, scallions, toasted cayenne sauce and more. Fancy right?! It certainly lives up to its name, beyond sushi.

My friends and I are vegetarians and we were so excited to order anything and everything on the menu since it was all vegan. There’s “Tuna” and “Salmon” sushi pieces, Spicy Mang Roll, Sweet Tree Roll, and more. They also have dumplings, ramen bowls, coconut curry soup, cauliflower wings, and the list goes on. Honestly, this was by far the best sushi I’ve ever had and I highly recommend you all check it out!

Address: 134 W 37th Street, New York NY 10018

Operating Hours: 11:30am – 9:30pm (Sunday to Thursday) and 11:30am – 10:30pm (Friday and Saturday).

Cost: $11 – $20 per person.
